Sure – you ask your aging parents if everything is okay when you talk to them, but are they really fine? Remember, senior citizens come from a time when you didn't ask people for help, and they don't want to be a burden.

When you head back home this year, poke around and make sure your loved one is truly doing well.

  • Janet Coursey Dec 21, 2015 1:18 pm PST Wish I had had this list about 20 years ago. Both my mother and father showed signs that something was very wrong, but when I asked about the cat food in the refrigerator, knowing that they did not have a cat, their answer seemed okay. They had a stray that visited. They didn't have anything. They could see well enough to know what they had bought. I learned this after the fact. My heart still breaks when ever I think about it.
